Braving the Schools?
A glance at what children are being taught, and what you can do about it.

Christian parents have a responsibility to train their children in the way of the Lord. Many parents unwisely rest that responsibility on the school system. The school system usually trains the children, but not in the ways of God. Reversing the ungodly training the children receive in school is much harder than training them godly in the first place.
Many parents professing to be Christians send their children to school, never thinking of the consequences this action may have. Many children growing up in a Christian home have been corrupted by the public school system. So many teens reject the Bible and its principles, all because of the influence of their friends at school and the public school system itself. Had those same children been trained properly, and had been taught at home, away from the influence of the school and their rebellious friends, they might have become good witnesses for Christ.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. (Proverbs 13:20)
We can learn from these examples. If you have children in the school system, beware of what they are being taught! How many Children might have put their trust in Jesus had they not been wrongfully influenced in the school environment! The Bible tells us we are not to be of the world; we are just passing though:
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world...For all that is in the world...is not of the Father...the world passeth away...but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (1 John 2:15-17)
The school system has an agenda -- obviously not based on the Bible! I don't know where you may be living reading this, but in the United States and also Canada, the public schools are nearly void of truth.
The public schools teach evolution, the "best" way scientists have come up with to explain how we got here if one refuses to believe there is a God. I'm sure you know what evolution teaches, so if you teach children they're animals, that's what they'll act like. And now we see the results of this teaching in today's society -- evil presented shamelessly everywhere to the young and old alike. And far too many "Christians" are going along with it. Few parents care what is taught to their children; both parents work and are trusting another to raise their children. I hope this doesn't describe you as a parent.
What a shame to Christ's name when so-called Christians follow in the world's footsteps, also sending their children to school. Public school, where the trusting youngsters are read the latest wicked Harry Potter book -- getting them acquainted with the occult. Public school, where the teachers are indoctrinating the children with environmentalism, teaching them to "Save the Earth" when we know that "the earth …shall be burned up." (2 Peter 3:10) Public school, where the children are sat in front of violent movies when the teachers feel they need a break, where the children trade evil Poke'mon cards during recess, where the children are taught in science class they came about by chance, and where children are made to think that anything is a family.
One can not really expect a child raised in such a system for so many years to grow up to be a godly adult. It may happen, but as you can see, the chances are not probable, and it is certainly not the place for a child of godly parents.
So what will you do with your children, your children whom you have invested so much time and energy (and for that matter, money too!) into? -- children whom God has entrusted you with. Will you have them go to ruin? Train those children right and they can be useful, not only to the parents and friends, but also to God.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)
But of what use is a rebellious child? Remember, a rebellious child will soon become a rebellious teenager and then a rebellious adult. What a shame for one who has been raised in a "Christian" home to later be looked upon as an ungodly spectacle even to those of the world.
I think you now can see the need for good child training. One major step in that is schooling. What will you choose? You may say that obviously public schools are not the answer. But what about the private "Christian" schools? Well, I'm sure that some are much better than the public schools, but here also you must beware. In the private Christian schools, everyone is thought of as a Christian, while many are not. This leads to hypocrisy. Some of the most poorly behaved children I know attend private Christian schools, and I think this is largely because they are hanging around other bad children who call themselves Christians, when they show none of the fruit of the Christian.
The only real option you have is to teach your children at home. Home schooling a child can start at any grade, but when the option is available, start when the child is young. True, the parent must be disciplined, and the child also, but one-on-one learning is also much faster than in a classroom. This is really the Christian's only godly choice, whenever it is possible to do so. Home schooling is not uncommon. Thousands of families home school, both for Christian and academic reasons, and by doing so you can control what your children are learning, whom they are playing with, and be sure that they are not being wrongfully influenced by the school system.
As a parent, it is your responsibility to train your children, and I hope you make the right decision. Even if you don't have children, you can help ones who do by encouraging them to home school. Please remember, "Braving" the public schools is certainly not an option for Christian parents interested in their children.

Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit [be] you like men, be strong. (1 Corinthians 16:13)
